Our Touch Teams

This term we had many sports, but I trailed for the all girls touch team. I made it into the team so as some other girls. So we went to the Eastern Touch Tournament, we played 8 games that day just with a few practices the boys and girls touch team from our school took out the competition. As well as we did the Touch games weren't over. Then in 2 weeks time we have to set off to the Auckland Touch Tournament that's were we play the best teams in Auckland. So for the past 2 weeks both teams trained really hard and learnt a lot of many amazing skills preparing for the big tournament coming up. Both teams are so ready for a really hard Tournament. So wish us luck, and hopefully we do well. Auckland Touch Tournament here Pt England comes.

Thanks to Rachael and Gabby.

My Dream ‘ Outta This World‘ Holiday

Brring … ‘ screamed the alarm. I tried to ignore it. I wanted to stay in my dream. My dream ‘ outta this world ‘ holiday.

In my dream holidays I would want to go to Pluto, but sadly if I launch off today I would be 22, by the time I get there. When I arrived at Pluto in my Spacecraft , It was really cold and I was floating around everywhere. Seeing that Pluto is made up from 70% of rock and 30% of water ice, it's also one of the smallest planet in the solar system.

I felt like a balloon floating and jumping around, “HELLO !” Hearing no one at all. Jumping around seeing the sight. But all I could see was Stars Craters and lots of rocks.

Thank you Tracey and Ocean

An Easier Way To Remember The Planets

This term we have been studying about the Solar System. So in class we had to make an easier way to remember the planets and the order it is in. So I was put into a group and we all came up with a ' Mnemonic ' for the Planets and to make it much better to understand we put it into a slideshow. Below is the slideshow.

Challenging Run

Running a 3.5 km run, I was wondering when it was going to end. Running past Ms Tito she said “ you have a third to go “ , I was hoping it was almost finish.

While I was running I came across some really sharp turns. As I was running the sharp turns I slipped twice.
As I was running though the bush there were really huge and deep. So it was really hard to run.

When I was running through the Pt England Reserve there were lots of muddy patches. It was really hard to run through the muddy parts. It is hard to get out of and sometimes you get suck in them.

When I was approaching the finish line, I was huffing and puffing all the way I ran past Mrs Lagitupu and I ran through the gap and ran towards Mrs Nua with the microphone in her jacket. Saying and coming to the finish line in second place for the year 8 girls is April.

Brumbies, Force, Rebels, Stormers.
My team is The Rebels
There will be a number of tasks for us to navigate to achieve our goal of an excellent result in this unit. There are a mixture of individual and team tasks to be completed. For the Rugby World Cup I think that the All Blacks are going to win this time. Because they have been training really hard for this moment and the Rugby World Cup is in New Zealand the All Blacks home town. So I really hope that the All Blacks are going to win this year.

Nonsense Poems

Walking down to the shop
I fell over a rock and had to hop
My leg was sore
and I was a bit poor
but I still walked down to the shop

James Mackenzie and the Polygraph

In 1902 Sir James Mackenzie invented the Lie Detector also called the polygraph. His invention was a less successful machine then the Polygraph that John Larsen invented. The Polygraph is used in police interrogation but only if it needs to be used.

James Mackenzie was born on April 12,1853 in Scone Scotland. He died in January 26,1925.He was educated at Scone Village school, Perth Grammar School and Edinburgh University. He was a member of the Burnley Literary and Scientific Club.

1855- Mackenzie was caught stealing 1,000 sheep from a sheep station north of Timaru.

1897, to measure the resistance of the skin to small electric currents emitted through metal electrodes attached to two fingertips of the subject.
1902- Sir James Mackenzie invented the Polygraph

1915- an American psychologist, William M. Marston, began to demonstrate a lie detection test

1930- just before World War II, the government and private businesses took over further advances in the technology related to the polygraph.

1931- Mr. Leonardo Keeler patented his device before proceeding to market his device to police departments across the country.

1938 using the lie detector to determine the positive reaction to using this razor.

Dr Mackenzie's application for the position of Medical Officer in the Workhouse Infirmary. At the Victoria Hospital. He was instrumental in establishing the Victoria Hospital which opened in 1886 and spent some time working there.

His invention the lie detector (Polygraph) is important because the Police need it so they can find out the truth from people in investigations and serious cases.

Looking back and Looking forward.....

Term 1:
Last term was so cool. I was excited because it was a new year. Last term we had lots of new things, what we had to learn was awesome.

We had more classes in technology like Science and Electronics. At the moment I have been in both of the new classes and so far I find it really interesting.

We also have Taonga time, that is when we go to the other classes in the intermediate school and do some fun things. I was designing tiles with Mrs Nua. But sadly we did’nt finish. We went on trips in the local neighbourhood to look for some inspirations, the experience was great.

Last term we also had a softball tournament, the girls came 5th. That was my first time playing softball but we did well for our second time in the competition. The player of the day was Etta, she was a really good backstop and supporter.

Term 2:
This term we are learning about designing or making things Bigger , Better , Stronger, Faster. The topic is interesting so far. We have been going through the design processes of how to create a proper sign.

We have been practicing for the netball season , and this week we had our first grading game. The team I am in is Team 1, they had won their game and I was the player of the day for my team. The other Year 8 team, Team 2, won their game too and Ocean was the player of the day. I play a lot of netball this term as well. I really enjoy this sport!

I can’t wait for the rest of the term and know that there will be a lot of awesome things and a lot more fun.

The Mouse Holder Challenge

We were given a challenge to make a box that could hold Mr Harris’s mouse it had to be bigger enough for his mouse it also had to open and close it with no glue to hold it together . We could choose to work as a team or by yourself. I decided to work as a pair with Reina. We were looking on the Internet to find some ideas to come up with for our box.

I remembered that Reina could make a really good box with a top and a bottom. We made a prototype to see if it could work. Then it worked out really well , so we made the box out of cardboard. We had to make the box so it could fit Mr Harris’s mouse. Once we did that we tested out the top of the box it was not tight enough so Reina did some miner adjustments.

I was not confident if was not going to work. So it tested it some more times. Finlay I was confident that it was going to work.

So Reina gave the box with the mouse in it Mr Harri’s raised his arm and then he drooped the box. It was a successes. I was filled with relief.

That challenge was awesome and I hope we could do it again.

Use The Crossing

We had to do an animation about what korero we would like to use and make a movie about it so I hope you enjoy and get the message that I have done in my movie Thank you.

In praise of adverds

Adverbs support verbs (action/doing words). Adverbs are what time it is and where it is taken place and how is it done.
For example: ‘She is shooting for a goal accurately’.
The action (verb) is shooting, the adverb (hoe she is shooting) is accurately.

My thoughts about camp...

Camp is coming up, and I am so excited YEAH!!!!!!. The name of camp is ‘Camp Taking charge’. I recently found out that I am a camp leader and also who is in my group. I am in Responsibilez.

After that, Mrs Nua gave us a Challenge, that was coming up with a chant for our group.5 minutes later it was time to tell everyone what we came up with. it was our turn we had nothing to sing so on the spot we just said anything and it turned out alright.

Later on Mr Barks gave all of us a challenge we had to get all our team to the other side of the room using 3 separate chairs and one mat and a 4 seater chairs. Sadly we did’nt complete it but we made it to the other side but not back. I am so pumped I really can’t wait until the day comes for the first day of camp. ARRRRHHH!!!!!!
